The TOSSD Task Force Secretariat carries out a series of country and thematic pilot studies, and analyses of the reported data, to make sure the TOSSD framework addresses the information needs of recipient countries and fulfill its objectives. These analyses contribute to further develop the methodology and to establish TOSSD as a viable, relevant and robust international statistical standard.

The TOSSD Task Force Secretariat conducted a number of country and thematic pilot studies. Seven country pilot studies in the Philippines, Senegal, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Indonesia and Chile. A first thematic pilot study focused on peace and security, followed by an additional thematic pilot study on global health financing, a study on the results of the 2019 data survey, and one on a comparison between TOSSD data and the data available in three recipient countries.
